South Kent School, founded in 1923, is an all-boys boarding school located in South Kent, Connecticut โ in the Litchfield Hills of northwestern Connecticut, approximately 90 miles northeast of New York City. The school occupies a beautiful 650-acre campus of forest, fields, and farmland in one of the most unspoiled landscapes in New England.
South Kent enrolls approximately 130 students, making it one of the smallest boarding schools in New England โ and one of the most intentionally intimate. The school's small size is a core part of its educational philosophy: every student is genuinely known, challenged, and supported by faculty who are fully invested in individual growth.
South Kent is known for its distinctive "Work Job" program, in which all students participate in the daily operation of the school โ maintaining buildings, preparing meals, and caring for the campus. This program develops responsibility, work ethic, and community investment in ways that set South Kent graduates apart.
Athletics are central to South Kent life. The school has particularly strong programs in football, ice hockey, lacrosse, and rowing โ the school's boathouse on the Housatonic River provides exceptional rowing facilities. South Kent competes in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) and has a long tradition of athletic excellence.
From New York City, South Kent is approximately 2 to 2.5 hours by luxury SUV. MyNYSUV provides luxury SUV service from JFK, Newark, LaGuardia, and New York City directly to South Kent's campus for all term arrivals, departures, and school events throughout the year.
